Nikun Soni hit the National News headlines as India’s First Handicapped Centurion, when he donated his blood for the 100th time in 2006. He had received nearly 20 units of blood for his own survival at the age of 16, when he lost his one leg in police firing during the Navnirman Movement in 1974.
Treating this as a social obligation, Nikun pledged to return many times more of what he had received. He was a living example of what will-power can achieve, notwithstanding physical limitations. As the Founder Chairman of Ahmedabad Red Cross Handicapped Blood Donors’ Club, he actively crusaded for the cause until his untimely death in 2011.
